The reasons behind our motivation to start this project are quite clear: to provide children with the tools to help them face up to their problems of which poverty is the principal one.
Provide them with choices in life. Open horizons to which education alone will allow them access.
We seek solutions unencumbered by politics or religion, which are fought for in these little villages like dogs who fight for a bone, without any consideration of the lives of the villagers or even less of their children.
We are hoping above all to create a catalytic reaction which will spark off other initiatives of this kind in other sectors. We often have in mind a neighbour stuck in the only bed in her earth floored house, surrounded by dozens of children, unable to go buy medicines or to get help for her needs and who is now dead from lack of health care or pharmaceutical products.
Why would you want to participate in this project? Because we firmly believe
in human values, in generosity, in compassion, in listening, in fraternity.
Even if the pictures transmitted by the media seem to tell us daily that this Humanity is on the decline, we believe that those of us who have been lucky enough to study, those of us who have been gifted with a privileged existence since birth would be happy to re-sow these seeds, to watch them germinate and bloom. The most generous are not the richest but are those who have understood the meaning of life and its meaning for each of us.
Let us share a little Ivorian tale: The bush is on fire, everything is burning, the animals flee. But untiringly a little monkey fills up his coconut with water and throws it on the burning grass. The agouti laughs at him and says: “You are naïve if you think you are going to put out the fire!”
The monkey replies “Yes, I know, but I am trying, I am doing what I can!”
